My art is similar to jazz, blues or rock music. Music is underneath the many layers of paint and behind various lines and shapes visible on canvas. My work is about improvising intense emotional states that we, as human beings, go through on every day basis. Lines, color and shapes are my main tools in making these experiences more formal and intelligible. Making people feel, understand and communicate are the major goals in my work, either in the way they see paint covering the canvas or through their own reactions to my work.
Coming originally from Russia, Anastasia immigrated to the U.S at the age of 12 and her passion for art has been with her since then.
A graduate of Fiorello LaGuardia HS of Music & Art and Performing Arts, she has worked with Barney Hodes who teaches sculpture at the National Academy and The Art Students League of New York and Sheryl Oring who is also a working artist in New York.
Anastasia’s work clearly reflects her life, showing the interplay of contrasting colors, shapes and curving lines, full of transformation.
Her major influences are P. Gauguin, H. Rousseau, V. Kandinsky, P. Picasso, S. Dali, J. Miro, J. Pollock and J.M. Basquiat, as well as Rodin, Calder, Moore, Giacometti and Noguchi.
